Physician Group Honor Roll methodology

Harvard Pilgrim uses a domain opportunity methodology which combines HEDIS measures for both adult and pediatric patients into 3 domains, as listed below:

 Acute care domain

  • Appropriate testing for pharyngitis (total)
  • Appropriate treatment for upper respiratory infection (total)
  • Use of imaging for low back pain
  • Initiation & engagement of alcohol & other drug dependence treatment - initiation total
  • Antidepressant medication management (acute phase)

Chronic care domain

  • Asthma medication ratio: medication compliance, for at least 75% of treatment period
  • Diabetes care: hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) tested
  • Diabetes care - eye exams

Preventive care domain

  • Breast cancer screening
  • Cervical cancer screening
  • Chlamydia screening in women (all ages)
  • Adolescent well-care visits
  • Well-child visits in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth years of life

The evaluation of each domain compares actual physician group performance to national performance at the 75th and 90th percentiles. Physician groups earn points if their domain score is better than performance at the 75th percentile (1 point) or at the 90th percentile (2 points). Physician groups that earn 4 or more points are named to the Honor Roll (the equivalent of performance at the national 75th percentile for 2 domains and the 90th for the third domain). Physician groups that perform at or above the national 90th percentile in all three domains are named to the Honor Roll with Distinction (as indicated by an asterisk).
