When is it time to seek help?

Feelings such as stress, sadness and anxiety happen to everyone from time to time. But when changes in your mood or behavior affect how you work, sleep, eat, relate to others or enjoy life, it may be time to talk to a provider.

When to seek help

You may benefit from professional help if you experience:

  • Feeling very sad, anxious or withdrawn for more than two weeks
  • Changes in your personality or your eating or sleeping patterns
  • Feeling unable to cope with problems or daily activities
  • Sudden overwhelming worry or fear that get in the way of your daily activities
  • Misusing substances such as alcohol and drugs
  • Extreme mood swings, anger, hostility or violent behavior
