Benefit from the Convenience of Electronic Funds Transfer

Are you still receiving paper checks from Harvard Pilgrim Health Care? Eliminate paper and enjoy greater convenience by making the simple switch to electronic funds transfer (EFT). Harvard Pilgrim offers EFT for our commercial HMO, PPO, and POS products, as well as our Medicare Enhance and Medicare Supplement products, to providers through Payspan.

Handy features

Payspan allows you to direct your payments electronically to a bank account and offers the convenience of being your one-stop source for your electronic payment, electronic 835 ERA, and explanation of payment (EOP) equivalent. In Payspan’s self-service environment, you can manage your electronic payments, access associated 835 ERAs, review current or past payments, and view, download, and print up to 18 months of EOPs, eliminating the hassle of storing paper copies.

Because providers who register with Payspan receive their electronic 835 ERAs and EOPs directly from Payspan, these users will no longer receive a paper EOP or 835 from Harvard Pilgrim.

You may also choose to have your 835 sent directly to a clearinghouse or vendor by Payspan if you work with one of these data exchange partners.

Getting started

To receive electronic payments, you must register with Payspan. If you don’t currently use Payspan, you may obtain a  registration code and PIN for creating an account by calling Payspan Provider Services at 877-331-7154 and selecting option 1 or by visiting www.payspanhealth.com/RequestRegCode/.  When you begin registering, please have your bank name, routing number, and account number handy. It’s important to accurately fill in the NPI field at the time of registration. This helps ensure that any clearinghouse or vendor you work with is able to properly access your 835; if this field is left blank during registration the NPI will later appear as “9999999999”. Step-by-step registration instructions are available on the Payspan website.

If you are already registered with Payspan, you can update your existing Payspan account to include Harvard Pilgrim. If you need assistance, email providersupport@payspanhealth.com or call Payspan Provider Services at 877-331-7154 and select option 1.

Payspan is available for Harvard Pilgrim’s contracted medical providers. Behavioral health providers can register to receive EFT through Harvard Pilgrim’s behavioral health partner Optum/UBH at www.providerexpress.com.
