HCAS Plans Credentialing Performance Exceeds State Guidelines

HealthCare Administrative Solutions (HCAS), a nonprofit collaborative of health plans, recently reported that HCAS plans exceeded statewide standards for credentialing and enrollment turnaround times. For the first six months of 2014, HCAS plans, including Harvard Pilgrim Health Care:

  • Processed 97% of completed credentialing applications for new Massachusetts physicians within 30 calendar days. This exceeds the 95% statewide performance guidelines for processing new physician applicants.
  • Had an average turnaround time of 11 days for processing these applications
  • Credentialed more than 65,000 providers in New England, an increase of 12% from the previous year

HCAS was founded in January 2005 by several Massachusetts health plans, including Harvard Pilgrim, to create consistency and streamline administrative processes for providers, resulting in greater efficiency and reduced administrative costs. For more information, please visit the HCAS website.
