PCPs play an essential role—helping patients stay healthy, arranging for additional health services needed, and coordinating care to ensure that other physicians are aware of the patient’s medical history. As part of our Centered Care initiative (see also Centered Care: A Focus on Prevention), the Group Insurance Commission (GIC) and Harvard Pilgrim are working together to educate GIC members about the crucial role that PCPs play.
In mid-May, Harvard Pilgrim is planning to mail letters to GIC PPO members emphasizing that working with a PCP can provide members with better quality health care and a better patient experience. These letters will also list the name of the provider(s) whom the member and their dependents see for their primary care services.
If the information is correct, members don’t need to take any action; if it is not correct, the letter asks members to designate the correct provider through their secure HPHConnect account by June 15.
