Reimbursement for Ambulatory Infusion Pumps

Effective July 1, 2013, Harvard Pilgrim will allow for reimbursement of ambulatory infusion pumps (code E0781) for office-initiated chemotherapy treatment only.

This change allows durable medical equipment providers to bill Harvard Pilgrim for supplying doctor’s offices with portable infusion pumps that administer chemotherapy, permitting patients to work or be in their own home while receiving care—a practice that has become more common as the industry has evolved.

Harvard Pilgrim will continue to deny code E0781 when it is billed with home infusion services, because the cost of portable infusion pumps is already factored into home infusion payment rates.
