As of April 15, 2013, the SaveOnSM program is being offered in Maine. This voluntary member savings and rewards program will now be available to fully-insured and self-insured employer groups with 51 or more employees in Massachusetts, Maine, and New Hampshire. Additionally, in New Hampshire, SaveOn is offered to small employer groups with fewer than 51 employees.
Through SaveOn, members receive cost information and financial incentives to encourage them to make informed health care purchasing decisions. By calling the SaveOn phone line, participating members can speak with a nurse to receive information about the relative cost for certain elective outpatient procedures and diagnostic tests, such as MRIs, CT scans, lab testing, and colonoscopies. This information can help members lower their out-of-pocket costs for particular services.
Harvard Pilgrim recognizes and supports the importance of the provider-patient relationship and is a strong proponent of care coordination. Therefore, the program focuses on services that can be delivered with the same high quality in lower cost settings and for which the mechanisms for reporting results to patients' primary care providers are well established.
The SaveOnSM program does not change any of Harvard Pilgrim’s existing referral, notification and authorization programs, policies, or procedures. The servicing provider continues to be responsible for verifying that any required authorizations are in place prior to rendering services, and members are responsible for contacting the referring physician to coordinate any updates to the referral.
