Mobile Farmer's Markets

The Foundation’s signature Veggie Mobile Initiative is growing across the region in partnership with a local hospital or health system in each market increasing access to fresh healthy food in low-income neighborhoods. We continue to support the existing mobile markets through the Regional Environmental Council in Worcester, MA, and Hartford Food System in CT. We have two new additions to our mobile market initiative: Mill City Grows which will be expanding operations in Lowell, MA, and St. Mary’s Nutrition Center in Lewiston, ME, working in conjunction with Cultivating Community to get a mobile market on the road in the fall.


Community Garden Grants

A total of 52 nonprofit local garden and farm programs across the region received $221,000 as part of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation's Healthy Food Fund. These grants are helping to increase access to fresh, local food through community and teaching gardens, supplies and equipment, volunteer development, and garden irrigation. [view press release]

Maine Local Food Grants

Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation and Maine Sunday Telegram awarded $100,000 in Maine local food grants to 12 nonprofit local food programs across Maine. These grants went to community and teaching gardens, cooking equipment, development of a food forest, and garden irrigation. [view story] [view press release]

Chop Chop Image Chop Chop Cooking Classes

During summer and fall of 2014, Boys & Girls Clubs’ members in Worcester, Boston, New Bedford, and Waltham learned first-hand about healthy cooking and eating thanks to a $100,000 grant from Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation to ChopChopKids. An additional four Boys & Girls Clubs’ will host the classes in the spring of 2015.

Youth at New Hampshire Boys & Girls Clubs received healthy cooking lessons in the fall of 2014 thanks to a $75,000 grant from Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation to FEEDNH.org.
